12 restaurants by the sea
On Gotland, there are plenty of restaurants with sophisticated menus and locally sourced produce. Here there are many meat and vegetable producers that supply restaurants directly, several of which have their own farm shops open to visitors. Here we have selected some of the best restaurants on Gotland with magnificent sea views, to take your time on the island to an entirely new level.
Strands Veranda
Strands Veranda is located in Visby harbour, literally by the sea. It is Wisby Strand’s summer bar and its nearest neighbour is Kallbadhuset. Here there is often a party atmosphere and entertainment throughout the evening, with refreshing summer drinks and a trendy à la carte menu.
Matsalen
Strandgatan is, appropriately enough, home to the Strand Hotel and Matsalen restaurant, which is open all year round. The menu consists of classic dishes and the venue is equal to the food. Matsalen also has a rooftop bar with views over the city and sea. The perfect place for a preprandial aperitif or glass of bubbly.
Creperie & Logi
If you love crepes and galettes, Creperie & Logi on Hästgatan is a must. Delicious fillings of all kinds and French cider are their speciality. There is also an outdoor terrace in front of this compact and charming house, and a larger terrace with view over the city at the rear of the building. Open all year round for all crepe lovers.
Isola Bella By the Sea
Right by the sea at Snäck is Isola Bella By the Sea, a restaurant that is open all summer. Here, both you and your children can enjoy Italian cuisine with pasta and pizza. At Tofta beach you will find its sister restaurant Trattoria Bella, and in Visby itself is the original restaurant Isola Bella. Isola Bella in Visby is open all year round and has outdoor tables in its large garden in summer.
Hotel Kokoloko
At the newly opened Hotel Kokoloko above the harbour, you can enjoy delightful BBQ evenings, mini golf plus refreshing drinks and snacks on the roof terrace. If you would rather spend time by the pool, they also have a bar there with cold dishes and a children’s menu. The terrace offers spectacular sunset views.
Krusmyntagården
Krusmyntagården is just a stone’s throw from the sea just north of Visby. Open from Easter to September. The menu has a clear Gotland touch and after dining you can stroll in their leafy kitchen garden. Their shop also sells herbs and spices.
Sudersannas
Sudersand beach on Fårö is home to Sudersannas Grill & Bar, as close to the sea as you can get. With your feet in the sand, you can enjoy an ice cream, freshly grilled burgers, salads, Fish&chips and other delights all day here on one of Gotland’s finest beaches.
Katthammarsviks Rökeri
If you like smoked fish, Katthammarsviks Rökeri is the place for you. At the far end of the harbour, they serve freshly smoked flounder, salmon, plus fish soup, outside or inside with delightful views of the bay.
Bruna dörren
Bruna Dörren in Ljugarn with its Caribbean flavour has been a genuine watering hole for lovers of reggae, potatoes and popgiss competitions. You can also buy ice cream, and rent a kayak or SUP. In addition to all the amazing potato dishes, the restaurant also serves pizza, a children’s menu, and smoked prawns.
Solsidan
At one of Kneippbyn’s restaurants, you can enjoy long summer evenings on the terrace overlooking the sea. With the playground next door and its own children’s buffet, Solsidan is a perfect restaurant to visit with children, and put smiles on every face.
Majstregården
If you are looking for a restaurant in the south of Gotland, Majstregården café and restaurant in Sundre, has views in three directions. Enjoy saffron pancakes or try their signature dish – lamb stew. Finding Hoburgsgubben rauk is a must.
Lergrav Fisk & Café
If you like freshly smoked fish and sunny quays, you will enjoy Lergravsviken in northeast Gotland. You can also buy local products to take home or enjoy a glass of wine with smoked prawns to the backdrop of lapping waves. If the weather is less kind, you can sit in the boathouse or the café.
